A little about us...

Miss Donya Keys

Birthplace: York
Age started dancing: 2yrs
Trained at: Elmhurst Ballet School

Short Bio: 
Donya Keys was born in York. She started dancing at the age of two and a half years old. She has passed her Royal Academy of Dance Major (Vocational) examinations and all grades with Distinction. In 1996, Donya became an associate with The Royal Ballet as well as dancing at the Louise Brown Yorkshire Scholarship Centre for seven years.

In 1998, Donya danced as an associate with the Northern Ballet Theatre for five years along side achieving the Dame Alicia Markova Scholarship awarded to her in 1999 and the Gladice Thorpe award in 2003. Also in this year, Donya was accepted into Elmhurst Dance School in association with the Birmingham Royal Ballet where she gained an A Level in Dance and Diploma in Dance.

She then went onto performing with the Birmingham Royal Ballet as a soloist in façade and later danced in firebird in 2005. Donya has danced with companies which include, Royal Opera Company, European Ballet Company and Yorkshire youth ballet theatre. Donya then progressed to become a qualified teacher, undertaking a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies at the Royal Academy of Dance.

Donya started teaching in 2006 and being based in the London area, taught at many dance schools as well as taking her classes into private schools. She is DBS checked. She now has own ballet school, bringing all her experience and knowledge back to her hometown of York. En Pointe opened in January 2013, and Donya opened the En Pointe Studios in January 2016.

As well as running En Pointe, Donya is an Associate teacher with the Royal Ballet school, and a teacher mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance.

Donya has a teaching placement with Queen Ethelburga's school and teaches there on a weekly basis. 

Qualifications:

  • Royal Academy of Dance registered Teacher.

  • All Classical Certificates with the RAD.

  • Trinity Diploma in Professional Dance.

  • A level in Dance

  • Child protection in Education level 2

  • First Aid

Working along side the best in the industry with The Royal Ballet School and being apart of their teaching faculty.

Miss Rachel, York Ballet Teacher

Miss Rachel English

Birthplace: Hull
Age started dancing: 4yrs
Trained at: Elmhurst Ballet School

Short Bio: 
Rachel trained with The Royal Ballet School and The Louise Brown Scholarship Centre, before taking up a full time place at Elmhurst Ballet School in association with The Birmingham Royal Ballet. She danced for The Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Scottish Ballet, Ballet Ireland and Cinevox Dance Company, performing a range of classical and contemporary repertoire. Musical Theatre work includes Belinda King Creative Productions, Cunard Ocean Liners, and Costa Cruises. Rachel is a Physiotherapist and a freelance dance teacher specialising in classical ballet.

Along side En Pointe, Rachel teaches at the Academy of Northern Ballet in Leeds.

Qualifications:

  • First Class Honours Degree In Physiotherapy.

  • Trinity Diploma in Dance.

  • Dance A Level.

  • Classical Certificates with the RAD.

  • Certificates with the IDTA in Ballet, Tap and Jazz.

Being able to travel while doing what I love.

Emily Humphreys at En Pointe Dance School Yorks

Miss Emily.H

Birthplace: Born in Shrewsbury but moved to york age 3

Age started dancing: 4

Qualifications: BA (Hons) Professional Practice of Dance. National Diploma in Professional Dance.

Trained at: Rebecca Davies School of Dance and Northern Ballet School

Short Bio: Emily attended the Rebecca Davies School of Dance in York until she began her vocational training at the Northern Ballet School in Manchester where she studied on the Jazz and Musical Theatre focus graduating in 2008. During her time here she was year representative and dance captain in the Jazzgalore company productions. She also began studying for her teaching qualifications with the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dance.

After graduation she worked for Costa Crociere In-House Productions where she was selected to be in the inaugural cast for two of their new ships. She spent two years with Moore Entertainment before returning to life at sea with Princess Cruises, premiering some of their brand new productions including Bravo choreographed by Danny Teeson and Wendy Johnson, and works by Karen Bruce to name a few.

Emily achieved a first class BA (hons) in the Professional Practice of Dance at Middlesex University specifically looking into safe dance practice and injury prevention. 

Highlight of career: There are so many it’s difficult to choose! Premiering a new show was always a fantastic experience. Also meeting and performing alongside my husband.



Miss Rachel Morris, Dance Teacher, York

Miss Rachel, M

Birthplace: London
Age started dancing: 3yrs
Trained at: Laine Theatre Arts

Short Bio: 
Rachel has been dancing since she was 3 years old. At 18 she went to train at the prestigious college, Laine Theatre Arts. While there she was chosen to perform with Kerry Ellis at the London Palladium, played the lead role of 'Cassie' in A Chorus Line and landed her first job with Qdos pantomimes.
Since then Rachel has worked professionally for over 10 years.

Highlight of career:  At sea with 'Carnival Cruise Lines' where she travelled the world while performing in shows 6 nights a week. She has also performed in numerous tours, pantomimes and corporate shows, including the world famous 'Thursford Christmas Spectacular' which have taken her all over the UK.

Favourite thing about working at En Pointe: 

Passionate about using her talents to inspire the next generation.


Edgar Lowman, York, Dance Studios

Mr Edgar

Birthplace: Sheffield
Age started dancing: 3yrs
Trained at: Academy of Northern Ballet

Short Bio: 
Edgar began his training in Sheffield aged 3, and achieved up to RAD Grade 4 before being accepted into the Academy of Northern Ballet in Leeds, aged 12. He trained for four years as part of the professional CAT programme, leaving the Academy to focus on academic studies after achieving RAD Intermediate Ballet with distinction. He began his role as an indoor climbing instructor in 2013. After volunteering in several primary and ballet schools, Edgar undertook a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and now runs his own small Royal Academy of Dance school in Sheffield.
Alongside En Pointe, Edgar teaches at the Academy of Northern Ballet as well as freelance chaperone and teaching work for the Royal Academy of Dance

Qualifications:

  • Royal Academy of Dance registered teacher

  • Classical Certificates with the RAD

  • Climbing Wall Instructor award (CWI)

  • Emergency and Outdoor First Aid

Miss Abigail

Miss Abigail En Pointe Ballet Teacher, York

Birthplace: York 
Age started dancing: 2yrs
Trained at: Roehampton University, London

Short Bio: 
Abigail has been dancing since she was 2 years old. When she was 18, she moved to London to attend  Roehampton University, where she trained in classical ballet along-side contemporary techniques, graduating with a BA Hons degree in Dance Studies. During this time, Abigail was part of a competitive cheerleading and contemporary dance team, traveling to regional and national competitions around the country. Whilst training, Abigail began working for a number of ballet schools in south west London. After graduating, Abigail accepted a place at the Royal Academy of Dance on the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies course, and continued to work as a freelance ballet teacher in and around London, including at a private prep school in South Kensington. 

Qualifications:

  • BA Hons Dance Studies

  • Classical Certificates with the RAD

  • Dance A Level

  • Paediatric First Aid

Highlight of career: Being able to continue doing the job I love in my home town of York!
