A little about us...

Miss Donya Keys

Birthplace: York
Age started dancing: 2yrs
Trained at: Elmhurst Ballet School

Short Bio: 
Donya Keys was born in York. She started dancing at the age of two and a half years old. She has passed her Royal Academy of Dance Major (Vocational) examinations and all grades with Distinction. In 1996, Donya became an associate with The Royal Ballet as well as dancing at the Louise Brown Yorkshire Scholarship Centre for seven years.

In 1998, Donya danced as an associate with the Northern Ballet Theatre for five years along side achieving the Dame Alicia Markova Scholarship awarded to her in 1999 and the Gladice Thorpe award in 2003. Also in this year, Donya was accepted into Elmhurst Dance School in association with the Birmingham Royal Ballet where she gained an A Level in Dance and Diploma in Dance.

She then went onto performing with the Birmingham Royal Ballet as a soloist in façade and later danced in firebird in 2005. Donya has danced with companies which include, Royal Opera Company, European Ballet Company and Yorkshire youth ballet theatre. Donya then progressed to become a qualified teacher, undertaking a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies at the Royal Academy of Dance.

Donya started teaching in 2006 and being based in the London area, taught at many dance schools as well as taking her classes into private schools. She is DBS checked. She now has own ballet school, bringing all her experience and knowledge back to her hometown of York. En Pointe opened in January 2013, and Donya opened the En Pointe Studios in January 2016.

Recently Donya was offered a teaching placement with The Royal Ballet associate programme, and is now the Cover teacher for the North. She has also been invited to teach at Queen Ethelburga's school and now teaches there on a weekly basis. 

Qualifications:

  • Royal Academy of Dance registered Teacher.

  • All Classical Certificates with the RAD.

  • Trinity Diploma in Dance.

  • A level in Dance

  • Child protection in Education level 2

Highlight of career:
Working along side the best in the industry at The Royal Ballet School and being apart of their teaching faculty.

Favourite thing about working at En Pointe:

Miss Rachel, York Ballet Teacher

Miss Rachel English

Birthplace: Hull
Age started dancing: 4yrs
Trained at: Elmhurst Ballet School

Short Bio: 
Rachel trained with The Royal Ballet School and The Louise Brown Scholarship Centre, before taking up a full time place at Elmhurst Ballet School in association with The Birmingham Royal Ballet. She danced for The Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Scottish Ballet, Ballet Ireland and Cinevox Dance Company, performing a range of classical and contemporary repertoire. Musical Theatre work includes Belinda King Creative Productions, Cunard Ocean Liners, and Costa Cruises. Rachel is a Physiotherapist and a freelance dance teacher specialising in classical ballet.

Qualifications:

  • First Class Honours Degree In Physiotherapy.

  • Trinity Diploma in Dance.

  • Dance A Level.

  • Classical Certificates with the RAD.

  • Certificates with the IDTA in Ballet, Tap and Jazz.

  • Qualified BalletBeFit Instructor

Highlight of career:
Being able to travel while doing what I love.

Georgie at En Pointe dance school York

Miss Georgie

Birthplace: Harrogate
Age started dancing: 3yrs
Trained at: Chatsworth Dance Academy (formerly known as A.V.A Dance Academy)

Short Bio: 
Georgie has been training in dance since the age of 3 specialising in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theatre. At age 16 Georgie gained her advanced 1 exam in ballet and tap, as well as gaining an award for classical dance.

At the age of 18 Georgie went on to study for her degree in Contemporary Theatre Practice, where she was awarded a 1st class degree and the graduate prize. Georgie also holds a Master’s degree in Applied Theatre Practice. For the past 5 years Georgie has been teaching both Musical Theatre and Dance at a wide variety of organisations, as well as facilitating drama at a high security prison, and working alongside the Donmar Warehouse to create the Shakespeare Trilogy, directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia, Iron Lady) and performed at Kings Cross, London, as shown on BBC 2.

Qualifications:

  • 1st class degree in Contemporary Theatre

  • Masters degree in Applied Theatre

  • Certificates in IDTA Ballet, Tap and Jazz.

  • Qualified HIIT and Barre concept instructor.

  • First Aid

Highlight of career:  Performing for the Criminal Justice System Arts Alliance Conference 2016.

Favourite thing about working at En Pointe: 

I absolutely love all of my students and classes at En Pointe, made even better by the amazing teachers I work alongside. I love being able to pass on my knowledge, and see the passion that the students have for dance and musical theatre.



Miss Rachel Morris, Dance Teacher, York

Miss Rachel, M

Birthplace: London
Age started dancing: 3yrs
Trained at: Laine Theatre Arts

Short Bio: 
Rachel has been dancing since she was 3 years old. At 18 she went to train at the prestigious college, Laine Theatre Arts. While there she was chosen to perform with Kerry Ellis at the London Palladium, played the lead role of 'Cassie' in A Chorus Line and landed her first job with Qdos pantomimes.
Since then Rachel has worked professionally for over 10 years.

Highlight of career:  At sea with 'Carnival Cruise Lines' where she travelled the world while performing in shows 6 nights a week. She has also performed in numerous tours, pantomimes and corporate shows, including the world famous 'Thursford Christmas Spectacular' which have taken her all over the UK.

Favourite thing about working at En Pointe: 

Passionate about using her talents to inspire the next generation.


Miss Emily Senior

Miss Emily, Ballet Teacher, York

Birthplace: Nottingham
Age started dancing: 6.5yrs
Trained at: Millennium Performing Arts (formerly MD2000)

Short Bio: 
Emily has always loved Dance! Starting with a weekly ballet class she soon became a Junior Associate of the Royal Ballet School, where she first danced alongside Miss Donya and Miss Rachel. Emily also went on to hold a Louise Browne Yorkshire Ballet scholarship, for five years and was a member of Yorkshire Youth Dance Theatre. Throughout her school years she enjoyed performing in various amateur and professional productions, from local youth theatre to national touring musicals. Aged 15, Emily studied towards her RAD grade 8 and Advanced 1, passing both exams with flying colours. Emily trained in Dance and Musical Theatre at Millennium Dance 2000. On graduating in 2006 she was presented with the Drama award in recognition of her Acting achievements. Emily spent some time performing onboard cruise ships, before returning to further education and gaining a BA (Hons) in Drama. Emily has been teaching Dance and Musical Theatre since 2010 and feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to pass on her experience and passion to the next generation.

Miss Abigail

Miss Abigail En Pointe Ballet Teacher, York

Birthplace: York 
Age started dancing: 2yrs
Trained at: Roehampton University, London

Short Bio: 
Abigail has been dancing since she was 2 years old. When she was 18, she moved to London to attend  Roehampton University, where she trained in classical ballet along-side contemporary techniques, graduating with a BA Hons degree in Dance Studies. During this time, Abigail was part of a competitive cheerleading and contemporary dance team, traveling to regional and national competitions around the country. Whilst training, Abigail began working for a number of ballet schools in south west London. After graduating, Abigail accepted a place at the Royal Academy of Dance on the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies course, and continued to work as a freelance ballet teacher in and around London, including at a private prep school in South Kensington. 

Qualifications:

  • BA Hons Dance Studies

  • Classical Certificates with the RAD

  • Dance A Level

  • Paediatric First Aid

Highlight of career: Being able to continue doing the job I love in my home town of York!
